Facebook Research Paper

Compare and contrast the goals and objectives of two hate groups on Facebook. 
Objective: This type of exercise not only opens up dialogue about common stereotypes, but also allows participants to familiarize themselves with the prevalence of hate groups in mainstream society.  As a result, you may become a better journalist and consumer of the news. 

Follow two different groups  and analyze the following areas: interactivity, educational value, number and types of followers and strengths and weaknesses

Paper should address:
·         Number and types of friends: industry leaders, executives, students, etc.
·         Mission/goal of page: is it stated on the page? If so, summarize.
·         Types of posts – who posts? Intern, exec., etc?
·         Interactivity between agency and friends: do they respond to posts, do they retweet?
·         Educational Value: can visitors learn from this site?
·         Strengths: What is good or useful?
·         Weaknesses: What needs improvement?
·         What would you change about each agency’s page?
·         Do they use a hashtag for posts?
·         Is the site just a place marker or is it active?
·         How many sites does the company have? – study the one with the most followers

Compare and contrast the goals and objectives of two political hate groups on Facebook (e.g. “I hate it when I wake up in the morning and Obama is President”or“I hate George Bush.” 

Follow the two groups for one week and analyze the following areas: interactivity, educational value, posts, photos, number and types of followers and strengths and weaknesses

Include the URL of the group’s Facebook page & two screenshots from its Facebook page
Compare and contrast both groups within paragraphs.

·         Does it include real news, news releases, and legitimate information?
·         Interactivity: do they respond to posts?


Hate Speech
·         Does it include racial slurs?
·         How many likes are there on each post?
·         Educational Value: can visitors learn from this site?


Creator Role
·         How interactive is the creator?
·         Does the creator identify him/herself?
·         Does page include spam?
·         Does the creator post frequently?
·         Are there many typos?

Strengths & Weaknesses
·         Strengths: What is good or useful?
·         Weaknesses: What needs improvement?
·         What would you change?
·         Is the site just a place marker or is it active?
